Two trees share one root
and reach for the sky
One a girl, one a guy
How gently they sway by and by
Together they face to the sea
Sparkling brightly in the sun
Firmly planted, unwilling
and unable to run
They dutifully shade a park bench
Aimed out upon the bay
and shade the lovers who rest upon it
Sharing kisses by night and dreams by day
Through the clouds, the gales and the rain
The trees with one root remain
and their leaves bloom each season
Again and again
Birds to the top branches alight
To rest their weary wings from flight
and rest there deep into the night
To fly away at the break of morning light
And as the first rays of yellow sun
Shine brightly upon the tree
the he and she
Cast only ONE shadow
